A new contemporary photographic survey which attempts to document interesting and unique funerary monuments specifically within and around Greater London as well as those that I encounter on my travels across the UK.
This project was inspired after a visit to the wonderfully historic parish church of St Mary's in Walthamstow Village which houses one of the finest collections of monuments in Greater London, I knew I had to see more! It's unfortunate that these beautiful works of art, which not only immortalize the memory of once prominent people and showcase incredible craftsmanship from centuries past, go widely unnoticed or unappreciated by the general public. This project serves to raise awareness and to inform people to visit these churches and to admire the phenomenon that is 'church monuments' but to also soak in all the history that our local churches have to offer.
I eventually intend to compile my images, mainly from my all the Greater London church monuments I've documented, into a book including some potential exhibitions of the images and talks regarding the project.
